Donald F. Lau, Membership Committee Chairman of the Metropolitan YMCA in 1958

We are the recipients of a legacy forged by generations of Americans who have embraced community leadership and civic engagement as essential ingredients of community life.

Donald Lau was active in many leadership positions for civic betterment during his lifetime – including the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, the Boy Scouts of America, the Salvation Army and his church.

David Lau currently serves on the Board of Trustees of both Judson Center (former chairman of the Board) and the Presbyterian Villages of Michigan Foundation; he is a past president of Rotary Club of Detroit and the Detroit Chapter of The Society of Financial Service Professionals and a former board member of The Detroit Athletic Club and Oakland Commerce Bank.  Mr. Lau is a trustee emeritus at Alma College.

“We’re a powerful force for good. With faith and courage, we can perform great deeds and take freedom’s next step. And we will. We will carry on the tradition of a good and worthy people who have brought light where there was darkness, warmth where there was cold, medicine where there was disease, food where there was hunger, and peace where there was only bloodshed.

Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.”

– President Reagan, Address Before a Joint Session of the Congress on the State of the Union, January 25, 1984
